MY JOURNEY TO MANGOE LAND

It was on a weekend. Few hours after the Saturday inspection, we went for hunting. Unlike every other hunters we were in search of a particular prey "MANGOE".

This was my first journey to MANGOE LAND and I was really nervous because I've always heard stories of how students who go on this hunt are chased by "Igbira men" the farmers who own the forest around the school boundary. We are trespasser on their land so they have every right to seize us if they find us stealing(plucking fruits) from their farm, and theirs a huge penalty for this theft.

This journey is a risk we must take to quench our taste of fruits no matter the danger ahead. We were all set and on our way we noticed that some of our colleagues embark on the same course. The road to mangoe land was a tiny path covered with thick bushes, going for this journey you'll have to be smart and must be a good sprinter; I was scared of creepy stuff, unlike my colleagues they were born thieves and smart ass who were scared of nothing. When we got to our destination (MANGO LAND) we saw the other colleagues that left earlier. I was like wowwwww... What a place full of so many MANGOE TREES. Indeed this is no doubt a LAND OF MANGOES. Now that we are here it's time to get the prey for real! Here the story begins.

It's past 10 in morning. We have only few minutes to get what we came for and leave. There wasn't any specific time for the farms to come to their farm so we have to hurry. We started plucking and gathering them in two big buckets so we can take them to feast in the hostel (This was a normal tradition for we the fruit hunters). We were eleven here in the forest, liking and plucking this farmers sweet mangoes.. (how terrible?) We thought they don't have time to pluck their fruit themselves so we felt we were doing them a favour by not letting the fruit waste or getting spoilt on the trees. But now it turns out we are going to help them with the real favour which we didn't plan for. We've plucked more than enough in a short time and we weren't satisfied. I have licked more than 10 mangoes and the others there might licked more, most especially the once we meet there. now we were filled and no on is hungry in our midst, so the story changed... Here comes danger!

Five Igbira men arrived the land with 3 grown up boys like us and now we have only one option but to run completely unprepared. We grabbed our bags and buckets full of mangoes and started running, but holding these heavy stuff was a set-back and we could get caught because this men were also fast sprinters. From the forest to the hostel was about 800m and had to make sure no one gets caught in the race because if one is caught the others will be fished out. After running 200 m with this heavy buckets we could no longer cope as the men were close by. We had to let go. We all let go of our bucket of mangoes and managed to escape. We came out successfully running down into the hostel to hide for a while.. when we were back from the shock, we realize we came back with nothing but a lesson.
